MUSIC SUPERVISION / DIRECTION / PRODUCTION

Music has always been a passion of mine - both professionally and as a hobby. From piano lessons and collecting 45’s as a kid, to theater and choir in high school, to bands & music production as an adult, it’s always been one of my favorite escapes. When I worked in Hollywood, I was fortunate enough to train as a Music Director for television (General Hospital) under some incredibly talented, Emmy-winning Music Supervisors (Ron Cates, Jr. & Dave Macleod). The gig was to use Disney/ABC-owned music cues and licensed popular songs to score complete episodes of the show using AVID ProTools. Music Directing is a unique art form that requires a musical ear and the ability to break up music cues into their individual instruments to both underscore and “add drama” to each scene. It also requires knowledge of the show, collaboration with producers and editors and a lot of practice to get it right. Once I acquired the skill, I was able to work as a hired “ghost” (uncredited) Music Director for many episodes of General Hospital. This eventually led to a larger role when I was hired as Music Supervisor for a General Hospital spin-off, General Hospital: NIGHTSHIFT. I supervised and scored all 14 episodes of Season Two, which required learning and using a new batch of Disney-owned music cues, as well as acquiring/licensing songs from larger artists (a highlight being licensing an Adele song for our finale). The NIGHTSHIFT team was a joy to work with. Daytime Dramas are a big “machine” with many moving parts, and it was a pleasure & privilege to be able to be responsible for the music/scoring part of the equation for both shows.

My Music Supervising/Directing for television career was put on hold when I shifted gears and began writing scripts for General Hospital, but it was a job that I very much enjoyed and would always be up for doing again.

In addition to the professional work above, I’m also an avid music composer at home. I consider myself more of a hobbyist, but I love writing and recording music and over the years I’ve put together a pretty substantial “rig” in my home studio. I play keys/synths and enjoy both songwriting and drums/beat production. I’m a bit of a gear nerd and always try to keep up to date with the latest gear and sounds (Ableton, Native Instruments, etc.). I’ve also experimented a bit with AI music production, but feel it lacks creativity and is too derivative - at least in its current applications.
